A new initiative to encourage people to make wills has been launched by Breens Solicitors. Willing Wednesdays aims to encourage people to view will making in a more positive light.
More than 60 people attended the launch event, held at The Vincent Hotel, Southport, yesterday (Wednesday 29th April) where they learned the importance of making a will and how Willing Wednesdays can help encourage people to put their affairs in order.
“Many people think that they must make a will but never get round to doing so. Willing Wednesdays aims to give them that extra push to take action,” said Managing Partner Stephen Breen. “If they contact us on a Wednesday and complete a will with Breens, then we will donate a portion of our fee to our chosen charities, Jospice and Derian House hospices.”
Sarah Charnley, head of Breens’ Later Life Planning Team which specialises in wills, probate and estates issues, explained that, in the UK more than two thirds of people die without making a will. “In many instances, dying intestate causes increased stress and distress for loved ones who are already struggling to deal with their loss. It can cause upset, uncertainty and hefty legal fees whilst the estate is sorted out,” she said.
“We wanted to create something that would act as a regular prompt and hope that the catchy name of Willing Wednesdays will stick in people’s minds. The process itself is very simple: call us on a Wednesday, tell us you wish to take part in the Willing Wednesdays initiative and we will do the rest. The team will arrange an appointment for you to visit our offices and make a new will or review an existing will. Once this has been completed, we will donate part of our fee to the Hospice fund. At the end of each year we distribute the funds we have collected evenly between Jospice and Derian House and we will notify all participating clients of exactly how much we have raised.”
