From the 1st July 2011 certain businesses will need to perform a risk assessment of their exposure under the act and then intoduce the appropriate procedures to prevent acts of bribery. The act covers not only the business but also agents, a subsidiary or other persons performing services for the business.
Each business will need to will need to:
- asssess whether there is a risk and decide on the level of that risk
- ensure that the appropriate and proportionate procedures are put in place to deal with any risks identified
- show commitment in preventing bribery
- train its people and raise awareness
- carry out due diligence on who they are dealing with and those they appoint to represent them
- ensure that the procedures are monitored and reviewed.
