Pre-nuptials booming

Research carried out by  accountants Grant Thornton has found that demand for pre-nuptial agreements has soared over the past year. More than three quarters (77%) of the 100 lawyers surveyed said they had seen a rise in the number of pre-nuptial agreements and 56% thought they should be legally binding. The family department at Breens has also seen a significant rise over the last year. Pre-nuptial agreements are agreements entered into by parties intending to marry that determine how their assets are to be dealt with in the event that the marriage ends in divorce. At present whilst they are taken into consideration by the courts they are not legally binding. Anyone with significant assets should seriously consider making one.
