On the 26 March 2020, the government published guidance on moving home during the pandemic. While many have viewed this as a pause to the property market, it does not prohibit the marketing of properties.
There is no ban on estate agents, surveyors or lawyers working, but most are working from home. Due to the lockdown restrictions, an estate agent cannot visit your home to provide a market valuation but with enough information they should be able to do this remotely.
You will need to provide good quality photographs and accurate measurements to your estate agent. You should also prepare a floorplan and, while you will not be able to have potential buyers visit your property, you can offer a virtual viewing.
The Coronavirus Act 2020, the Health Protection (Coronavirus, Restrictions) (England) Regulations 2020 states you should not leave your home without a reasonable excuse however moving home is considered a reasonable excuse. It all depends upon the circumstances under which you are selling and moving.
It will be challenging to put your house on the market during lockdown, but it is not impossible. As long as you are flexible and are prepared for it to take longer than usual, there is no reason why you should not put your property on the market.
